NFL News and Rumors fly through the Red Zone

It was an ugly night for both the Bears and Giants but for different reasons. The Raiders continued their reputation of unusual draft decision, and the injury issues for the Pack return again. NFL news and rumors stay hot.

New York Giants def. Chicago Bears: Terrell Thomas injury curbs celebrations

Several major problems resurfaced for the Chicago Bears that undid a good start to the game. Jay Cutler got sacked only once and threw for 171 yards, but failure on third down, in the red zone, and on special teams paved the way to a New York Giants runaway. Chicago also had at least five dropped passes that would’ve extended drives. Meanwhile, the Giants overcame a sluggish start to take advantage of a big kick return and blocked punt to put up two touchdowns. Eli Manning was not perfect but kept drives alive, while big Brandon Jacobs popped off several big runs that broke the game open. David Carr put the game out of reach late with two touchdowns of his own. Everything, however, got tempered when standout cornerback Terrell Thomas tore the ACL in his right knee trying to sack Jay Cutler.

Final score: 41 13

Oakland Raiders spend Third Round Pick for Terrelle Pryor

It was almost destiny. Terrelle Pryor is a freakish athlete with a checkered past just looking for an opportunity. No team signifies second chances more than the Oakland Raiders, a team that built champions around controversial players. NFL news and rumors reported that Oakland used a 2012 third round pick to grab Pryor in the supplemental draft. This gives the Silver and Black youth and talent in their quarterback stock behind three major question marks in Jason Campbell, Kyle Boller, and Trent Edwards.

Denver Broncos declare Kyle Orton the official starting quarterback

It may have been a forgone conclusion but the Denver Broncos waited until after their second preseason game for certainty. Kyle Orton will start the regular season opener for the Broncos, leaving Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow in a fight for the backup spot. Orton likely won the job when he put on an impressive performance against the Buffalo Bills and bring hard work and leadership to a team that desperately needs it given injury troubles.

Cleveland Browns keep tackle Joe Thomas for another Seven Years

There are few bright spots fan of the Cleveland Browns are proud of, but All Pro tackle Joe Thomas sits at the top of that list. After four Pro Bowls playing for some bad teams, Thomas got a much deserved payday when the Browns locked him up for seven years and a whopping $84 million. This contract makes him the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history, an impressive feat considering he plays for a team that hasn’t reached the playoffs since he got drafted in 2007.

Green Bay Packers lose linebacker Frank Zombo to broken scapula

Injuries were something the defending champion Green Bay Packers desperately wanted to avoid. Second year linebacker Frank Zombo wasn’t that lucky, breaking his scapula bone in his shoulder blade. Zombo was in the heat of a race for the starting job at outside linebacker and played a pivotal role in the Packers victory over Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl. His loss is a major shot to the depth of the Green Bay defense and makes fans wonder whose next.
